NL-9 Router Set-up, Bit Selection and Use

Instructor:  Jeff Zens

Routers are useful machine tools in a wood shop, and have applications from joinery to making moldings.  They’re loud, and they demand respect, so, much of what we’ll cover will focus on safety.  The class will begin with router selection, and we’ll discuss the different applications for palm routers, full-sized handheld units, and routers mounted under tables.

We’ll spend a fair amount of time on ten bits that can handle the majority of work in your shop.

We will construct a simple template, and use it to create floating-tenon joinery, a technique that will prove to be of great utility for future work.

This class is part of the 17 class Guild series Woodworking at the Next Level for developing and refining your hand tool and design skills.  There are prerequisites for the class.  A list of required tools and materials is provided to registrants.
