If you’ve never used a hand plane but want to, this class is for you.  Have you tried to use one but had trouble?  Gotten less-than-spectacular results?  This class is for you.  Would you like the ability to remove shavings of wood 0.001” at a time?  This class is for you too!

Whether you’re looking for high precision when fitting joinery or a method to greatly reduce or eliminate the time you spend sanding, hand planes are the professional’s tool of choice.  We invite you to join Guild hand tool and Next Level instructor Jeff Zens for a daylong session guaranteed to help you better understand these terrific tools.  We scheduled this class just before the upcoming Masters classes to help you prepare for them - take advantage of this perfect opportunity.

The workshop will begin with a brief introduction of the different styles of hand planes, their names and their uses.  After the introduction you’ll be guided, step-by-step, completely disassembling, cleaning and reassembling your hand planes.  There will be a brief sharpening demonstration – but this isn’t a sharpening class, so do that beforehand if you can.

Finally, we will work with our planes to clean up and dimension pieces of stock supplied for you.

This class is for anyone who wants to understand and begin to use these tools.  Beginning woodworkers are welcome, and there are no prerequisites.  Having attended a sharpening class beforehand is useful but not required.

A tool list will be sent to students upon registration, but it is minimal.  Because the class size is intentionally limited, early registration is a good idea.  This workshop is sure to sell out: don’t delay!

If you have questions please contact the Class Coordinator, Steve Anderly at 530-422-3848.
