Build a Garden Bench and Planter Set with Asa Christiana
White Card Required

Spend a July Saturday at the Guild shop and go home with a lovely Japanese-style garden bench and two nice planters. No skills are required for this white-card class. We’ll use basic materials--cedar deck boards and screws—plus simple tools—miter saws and cordless drills—to build these durable, functional projects. Assistants will be on hand to keep you safe throughout the day, lunch will be provided, and you’ll pick up some valuable woodworking skills along the way.

Tools to bring if you have them:

—combination square

—tape measure

—block for sanding

—cordless drill with 1/8-in. drill bit

Asa Christiana is the former editor of Fine Woodworking magazine, now living in Portland and dedicated to sharing the basics of woodworking with as many people as possible. His new book, Build Stuff with Wood, out September 2017 from the Taunton Press, is targeted at true beginners. His upcoming guild classes will be aimed at woodworkers of all levels, and focused on the foolproof fundamentals he gleaned from 15 years of curating content at Fine Woodworking, as well as his own 20+ years of building stuff, from fine furniture to custom carpentry to crazy projects of all kinds.

And check out his new book, packed with projects for makers in all modes:
