Guild Shop Maintenance SIG
Meets every Monday evening from 5:30 pm until 8:30 pm

The Shop Maintenance SIG is an opportunity for Guild Members to learn more about the maintenance and tune-up of woodworking machines and the maintenance and sharpening of hand tools used in woodworking. Each Monday evening, there is an opportunity for you to learn more skills while keeping the Guild Shop running smoothly. There is no cost to Members for this SIG.

Come and meet other Guild volunteers who share your interests and are willing to share their knowledge and experience in caring for the tools of woodworking. You will learn and have fun at the same time. No shop maintenance experience is required. A Shop Safety and Orientation card is suggested, but not required for participants.  There are jobs for all levels of woodworking experience and mentors to help you learn new skills.

Requirements:  You do not need to be an expert at anything, just willing to work.  It is a great opportunity to learn new skills such as maintaining equipment and proper procedures for your shop. You may arrive any time between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm and we will find you a job.

We will be doing several maintenance activities each Monday evening such as:
•    Checking and cleaning all machines in the Machine room
    •    Adjusting and aligning fences and tables
•    Sharpening and organizing hand tools in Bench Room
•    Cleaning the filters on the shop dust collection system
•    Checking the vacuums and dust collectors in the Shop and cleaning any filters that are full
•    Checking and organizing supplies and tools needed to keep the various machines running smoothly
    •    Check belts for all sanders and quantity in stock
    •    Check all circular saw blades to see if need cleaning - clean if needed
    •    Check all band saws for sharp, clean blades - clean or replace if needed
    •    Check all shop supplies for quanties on-hand and resupply needs

Come join the group of dedicated volunteers who keep the shop running smoothly and learn more about the shop and how it works.

I look forward to working with you as you learn more about Shop Maintenance.
Ken Hall, Shop Operations Lead
