Shell and Fan Carving with Mary May 19-1

This two day, hands-on class will focus on shells (concave and convex) and get you started on carving concave and convex style fans.

The class is for advanced beginners and intermediate level carvers.  You must have some prior experience with long handled tools, using a mallet, working with and understanding grain, and keeping your tools sharp.  Success with Chuck Rinehart's Foundations of Classical Carving class provides this experience.

The projects will be done in hardwood, Walnut or Mahogany, not Basswood, so be prepared to work harder and experience the joys of quality wood.

COST of the session is $350, including materials and lunches, but you must provide your own tools (must be sharp).  The list of tools is below.  They are long-handled, mallet-ready tools which may be purchased at local suppliers (Woodcraft or Woodcrafters) or online.  Some carving tools and complete kits are available to rent from the Guild.

The tools list is below.  The numbering is Swiss Made/Pfeil/Continental), so adjust if buying UK/Sheffield.

A different cancellation policy applies to this class.  Thirty (30) days advance notice is required to cancel in order to get a refund unless your slot is filled by someone else. However, cancellation within seven days forfeits payment.

This class is open to Guild members and to others meeting the prerequisites.  If interested or curious about Guild membership please visit the Membership webpage and consider Joining.
