Basic Build - Make Your First Cutting Board

Instructor - Mike Chia

NO Green Card Required - White Card Only

This is an Introductory hands-on class where students will learn the steps to making a laminated cutting board.  During the 4-hour class students will glue up their own boards (first hour), then watch demonstrations of the milling steps and shaping used in constructing the board. Then will have time to practice these operations on demo boards.

Students will unclamp their own boards and begin the process of finishing their own boards during class. This involves using various tools (Planer, bandsaw, router table & sanders) to get their board to final “design” shape. The goal is that students will leave the with the hands-on experience on all the machines needed to take the blank to final cutting board form.

If time runs out the Guild will allow students to come back during some Open Education times (TBD) to finish their board under the supervision of Shop Attendants.

Wood will be provided, student should bring their Personal Protective Equipment (ears, eyes and lung protection).

Please contact Tom Rich, the class coordinator, at, if you have any questions.
