Instructor: Bill Bolstad

This is the most versatile table class offered to you by the Guild and Bill Bolstad. You will customize your table to suit your ideas of how your table should look.  You will personally design and build this table…and the configurations are almost endless.

Here is how it works: Your choices for types of tables include:

  1. A “Side” table……max size up to 24”  X  24”  X  30” H
  2. A “Hall”  table……max size up to 15”  X  40”  X  30” H
  3. A “Coffee” table…max size up to 18”  X  40”  X  20” H
  4. An “End” table…..max size up to  24”  X 24”  X  20” H

The three styles of legs you will choose from include:

  1. Straight legs
  2. Tapered legs
  3. Curved legs.

Your Stretcher style choices include:

  1. Straight
  2. Curved

Your legs will be fastened to the stretchers using these options:

  1. Dowel and Screw
  2. Floating tenon

Next you will choose how to fasten your table top to the carcass one of these ways:

  1. Floating top
  2. Top attached to stretcher
  3. Top attached to balls on top of legs

Many combinations are possible but some combinations might not be a good design choice.  You will personally design and lay out your piece, and then you will check out the configurations one-on-one with Bill before any wood is cut. The wood package furnished will be enough to size and build a table which is equal to or smaller than the maximum sizes cited above.  Of course, you will design and size your table to match your desires and needs.  After you have signed up for this class your Class Coordinator will email you asking you for your various choices for your table.  An added bonus is that you will multiply your experience by watching your classmates design and build their own various combinations of styles and features. When you leave on Sunday night your personally customized table will be ready for final sanding and your choice of finish. Beginners ARE WELCOME to attend. You will learn methods to attach a (floating) top, creating tapers, and curve-cutting jigs, not to mention floating tenons, effortless glue-ups, and learn how to make a table level. Bill will supply all materials including wood (Alder), parts, supplies, decorations, and hardware. Bill will have some “strange and unique types” of wood available for you to purchase to add even more intrigue and personality to your project.  You bring your lunch and the Guild will provide pop, water, and ice.
