Getting Your Shop Card

Note: Once you complete the Intro class and Safety Test , which are recorded on the Shop Database, you can participate in Guild volunteer projects including Bench Room, Toy Build, Project Build with mentored machine use.  In order to take part in OPEN SHOP, and most WOODWORKING Education classes, you must become Certified to use the Shop Machines.

To use the Guild Shop of take certain classes you need to become certified first to safely use the Core Tools, and if desired subsequently on individual advanced tools.  To achieve Shop Certification you must:

1. Be a current Guild member,
2. Have completed the Intro to the Guild Safety class. The class is $40 and pre-registration is required.  You must complete the following items before the start of the class:

• Read the Guild’s Shop Tool Safety Manual
• Take the Shop Safety Test. Bring your answers on paper or a device to the class
• Complete a Self Evaluation Form and bring it to the Intro to the Guild class. This will help us guide you through the appropriate training and testing for our workshop tools. 

Requirements to get Shop Certification for working in the Machine Room or Taking Classes using our power tools, you must:

• Complete the Getting Started Class (for beginners) and/or
• Complete the Core Tool Certification class. Note: If you are deemed an Intermediate or Experienced woodworker you can skip the Getting Started Class.

These classes will provide instruction as well as certifications and will allow you to use specific Core Power Tools in our machine room for your own projects or take classes where the Core Power Tools are used.  You are NOT allowed to use tools for which you do not possess certifications.

Safety class instructors will record your passing qualification in the Shop Database on an individual tool basis.  Shop Attendants are asked to consult this database at each users shop entry.

Advanced Training & Certification

To get additional training on Core tools or other Advanced tools:

• Take the appropriate class and be certified for the specific tool.

To become a Shop Attendant:

• Get your Shop Card,
• Take any Advanced classes as needed,
• Complete the Shop Attendant Training (Open-Close Shop & First Aid procedures),
• Complete two “Shadowing Sessions” during an Open Shop.

Shop Card Active Period

The Shop Cards are active as long as you are a paying member of the Guild (Unlimited Use cards expire on the date indicated) and you are "regularly" either taking classes and/or using the shop (community projects or paid for Open shop, etc.). If you do not use the shop for a period of two years your card will be deactivated.
