Community outreach |
Community service motivates many of our Guild members and is enshrined in our charter. Over the years, the range of activities has greatly expanded, to include estate assistance, a year-round toy build team, financial scholarships, youth outreach and projects for specific charitable organizations or causes. In addition, many of our members offer their services to the community when a woodworker is needed. The Guild puts the two parties in contact with each other to do the project. Volunteering to work on projects is one of the best ways to raise your woodworking skills, in a fun and supportive environment. Team members collaborate on everything from design to build. |
Toy TeamA year-round activity that meets weekly and builds custom wooden toys for needy kids. These are distributed not only at Christmas time but throughout the year. Project BuildThis team meets weekly and builds products that are sold at shows or events to generate money for the Guild. Sometime the project is for a special need and donated to the cause. The Guild offers scholarships to aspiring woodworkers who need assistance in taking classes. Scholarships are funded by the Guild and generous donations by local organizations. | This team selects larger projects from a list of requests from local charities, non-profits, or city/state groups. Often these projects can run for many months. Have a job that needs an experienced woodworker. Submit your request and it will be sent out to over 800 members who expressed an interest in doing small jobs. During a stressful time, the Guild offers its services to families whose woodworker has passed. This is one of the most successful programs the Guild has ever offered. |
