He produced over 1,000 wood carvings before he died in 2016. His work is memorialized with two major art museum exhibitions and a 35 minute documentary. By the time he got the commission to produce the carvings at Salishan Lodge in 1965 he was already well known. He usually worked on a massive scale with noted architects and his works can also still be seen at Skamania Lodge and the entry to the chapel at the University of Portland.
This program will review his works, his life and the works of his adult daughter, Monica Setziol Phillips, who lives in the house her father built near Sheridan, but blends her weavings with carvings inspired by her dad.
