Tips to Become a Better Woodworker

Instructor: Thurman Miller

Want to be a better woodworker? If so, here is an opportunity to learn from someone that may fall into the  "Been there, done that”, category. Thurman Miller is a fellow Guild member and professional woodworker. He has been working with wood since 1986 when,  just after college, he began with a Craftsman circular saw, router, and straight edge. While using his apartment's 2nd bedroom as a shop, he built a couch and entertainment center. He continued to learn and try new things, when in 1992, he  built a 4,000 sq/ft log house in which he still lives today. After running out of projects to do at his own house, in 2013, he began producing and selling, professionally, while still working his day job. As sole proprietor of Beyond The Edge Woodworking, he now completes about 8-10 custom projects, per year, for clients, primarily focusing on pieces that utilize full slabs purchased locally. Thurman's other passion is passing on what he has learned (and is still learning) to others.

Interested in hearing any of this? On April 14 and April 21, 2021 the Guild will be presenting two video education segments for members via zoom. Thurman will present his Tips To Be A Better Woodworker. Each segment will be approximately one hour long. PART 1 will focus on Design/Planning and will cover various ideas on how to approach a woodworking project. PART II will be general tips on how to experience success with your projects. These sessions will include a live slide presentation and designated time for Q&A. These sessions should be time well-spent and, if history is an indicator, we will all learn from each other as we attend Tips To Be A Better Woodworker.
