Triptych Boxes with Kelly Parker

Prerequisites: Core tools and routers (unless permission received from Chip Webster prior to registering)
This challenging class is designed to move you past the fundamental use of essential workshop tools and into more sophisticated, higher-skilled territory. It will introduce you to advanced techniques on the bandsaw and router table and show you ways to get more out of a table saw, disc sander and PantoRouter. Additionally, you will learn how jigs can help you work more safely and accurately, especially when working with small parts. We will use custom-made jigs on the bandsaw, table saw, router table, disc sander, drill press and PantoRouter during this class. We’ll also discuss the use of biscuit joiners and a shop-made dowel jig.
As a way to practice these new skills, we will make a beautiful trio of boxes. We'll work in flat sawn and quarter sawn walnut and ash. We‘ll incorporate some amazing woods as well as a little bit of embellishment work (pyrography, gold leafing and milk paint). The class is full of learning opportunities and techniques that will advance your knowledge of working with non-square parts, creating custom jigs, working safely with small parts, and increase your skills on the router table, bandsaw and table saw.
This workshop requires some level of experience and is well suited for students with intermediate skill levels. Teaching assistants will be provided to aid students in elevating their skill levels.
