John Harden: Wood Turner Extraordinaire

January 17th, 7-9 pm, Guild Studio

John has been working with wood since high school.  After years working as a finish carpenter the 2008 recession gave him the (forced) opportunity to work in his own shop. John started working with “firewood” to create small furniture. A table saw accident in 2015 took him down a different path – wood turning. It was the result of this career choice that brought  John together with program planner, Joe Wheaton, at the GOTG.

John’s work is fascinating. . His method is to make up blanks from various species of wood, then turn the bowl, revealing the patterns he has created in the blanks. The result is stunning and mesmerizing.

See John’s work for yourself on his webpage: https://www.johnhardendesign.com/, or his Instagram page, https://www.instagram.com/johnhardendesign/,  to better appreciate the quality and craftsmanship that goes into each piece. This short video should excite you about seeing his presentation: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj8ScrZJdUJ/

Parking is limited on the street, but you can park at the Multnomah Art Center. If you haven’t had a chance to see the Studio, this is a good opportunity. John lives in Grants Pass, Oregon, so he will be joining us via Zoom, but there will be many opportunities to ask questions.

Please join us in welcoming John and check out his work in person next year at the GOTG. His work is also available locally at the The Perfect Piece Gallery, 1179 McVey Ave., Lake Oswego, Oregon 97034.

This will be the first time we have had a monthly meeting at the Studio, so please give Joe your feedback: joe.wheaton@goow.org
