Mark Newman Design in Wood

For our June general meeting we have a field trip planned to the workshop of one of the early members of the Guild. Mark Newman is a renowned cabinet and furniture maker who has been with the Guild since its inception. Mark has a long history in working with wood, but he is now the owner of Woodcraft Inc. and making everything from cabinetry, kitchens, and entertainment centers to office designs to building facades. His 4000 sq. ft. shop at 331 SE Madison will be our next monthly meeting. 

Mark began his woodworking career in the hopes of becoming a guitar maker, but this desire vanished after an apprenticeship with a furniture maker. He describes his woodworking journey as a “slippery slope” that passed through cabinetry, commercial woodworking, and finish carpentry before landing at designing and building custom furniture and even architectural creations. He has remodeled the Oregon Governor’s office and built rooms for Damien Lillard, as well as created custom beds and chests. Entrance to the studio is on Southeast Madison Street, which is one way. You must enter SE Madison from SE Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, which is one way going South. There should be plenty of parking at that time of time of night. It might be easier for many of us to attend via Zoom.
