Hand Tool Special Interest Group
Presenter: Dick Harbert
Requirements: Intro to the Guild.
Topic for March 28, 2024:
Marking and Measuring
The foundation of fine woodworking is accurate and precise marking and
measuring. We will talk about why we mark, what tools are used for marking,
and which techniques are useful for marking. What is the difference between
accuracy and precision? Measuring tools define dimensions and locations for
each part of your project before you cut, shape, or drill. These tools include
rules, squares, triangles, bevels, gauges, calipers, and story sticks. Learn
about approaches and proper tools for dimensioning each piece of your
project, joinery, and shaping elegant details.
Note: The Hand Tool SIG does not meet in November or December due to conflicts with holidays.
