Hand Tool Mentoring - Start an Easy Project
Mentor: Ruth Warbington & Tim Moore
CA: Bill Gemulla
Make a box, a 6-board bench, a sawhorse, or ? Learn, practice, and refine your hand tool skills on an easier project with help from us. Bring your own wood and idea or use an idea from our “Idea Box”. We’ll have a small selection of pine boards for practice and to buy for a small project. We’ll consult with you to pick a project appropriate to your interests and skills and help you get underway. There will be demonstrations and shared learning for ALL at the beginning of each session and as individual projects present opportunities. Email the instructors before the session to start the project discussions.
These trial workshops are to get you started. You can continue your projects in additional sessions of the workshop (sign up required for each day) or the Open Studio Hand Tool Mentoring sessions on some Sunday afternoons. If there is interest in additional sessions we will add more dates on the Studio calendar.
Hand tools are available at the Studio or bring your own. Bring some easy to work wood like clear pine, cherry, poplar, basswood. We will be focused on building projects and building skills, not on teaching sharpening or refurbishing your tools. Machines may be used VERY briefly for milling, with approval and participation of instructors/CAs, and with Core Tool Certification.
Limited amounts of pine will be available for purchase as needed. ($15-25 depending on amount needed)
