Guild Education Program

Overview

The Guild’s Education program consists of three legs:

1. Safety classes and Shop certification - These will orient you to the Guild and allow you to be certified to use the shop or take classes that require tool safety training
2.  Woodworking classes - The woodworking classes range from entry level Introductory lectures and basic skill building advanced and specialty offerings.  Each year we bring in Visiting Masters for classes and seminars.
3. Special Interest Group (SIGs) -  SIGs are a subset of members that focus on a particular topic and meet on a monthly basis.  The SIG topics include Carving, Hand tools, Women’s, CNC,  and Professional woodworkers.

Safety Classes and Shop Certification

To work in the shop or take some classes requires a "Shop Card". There is a series of safety classes to get you there:

1. The Intro to Guild Safety class is the first step in that process.  It is required for any member that will be taking classes or using the shop.
2. Getting Started is an optional class that is offered for new woodworkers and is a basic introduction to woodworking with handheld power tools. 
3. Shop Certification is specific training and is required to use any of the Guild's Core Power Tools.
4. Advanced Tool Classes are additional optional training on the Shop's core tools and some of our special tools (Sliding Tablesaw, Multi-router or Panto Router, etc.)
5. Shop Attendant Training is offered for those members that are interested in becoming a Shop Attendant.

Woodworking Classes

The Guild offers a number of classes that start with Introductory Lectures and beginning Skill building classes.  We also have Advanced and Specialty classes, as well as, offerings from Visiting Masters.

• Intro Lectures - These classes are a good place for beginners to start their woodworking journey.  They will introduce you to basic aspects of woodworking and are offered on a regular basis.
• Basic Skill Building - These are Hands-on classes designed to develop woodworking skills and/or build basic projects.
• Advanced and Specialty - These classes are advanced skill building or project classes in addition to special topic classes.
• Visiting Masters - The Guild brings in recognized Masters to conduct classes and seminars.  These are very popular classes conducted by well known woodworkers such as Garrett Hack, Michael Fortune, Taeho Kwon and Mary May to share their knowledge and expertise.
