    Hi Larry,

I'm interested in your workbench.  I'm free Sunday morning

I bought this at an estate sale thinkinig it would be ideal as a carving workbench for our shows like Art in the Pearl, but it is too heavy for that.  However, it has a lot of interesting characteristics.  Price is the same I paid.

The central feature is the Veritas (Lee Valley) double screw vise which lists new for $379.  Their price has free ground shipping in about three weeks, otherwise shipping is about $100.  This variation has screw threads on 24" centers, with an overall width of 32".  From the Lee Valley web site (click here), they say:

This is the only non-racking full-width end vise on the market. You can clamp anything anywhere in the vise and the jaws stay parallel. The chain drive ensures parallelism and eliminates the racking common in other vises. It can be operated using either handle. (click the link above for all details)

From the photos it looks like the legs and the top go together, but I don't think so.  The top rests on the two legs, but it is bolted and doesn't look like it was intended that way.  My guess is the two legs serve as two horse legs with an adjustable height mechanism for like an assembly talbe.

The benchtop size is 321" wide by 20" deep, and stands 10" off its legs.  The top has the t-tracks for hold downs (none provided), and has a layer of cushioning between the top and the legs (see photo).  My guess the cushioning was made to absorb heavy pounding.  I would call this design a "super bench top bench".  You might see it differently.

Call or text me at 503-312-7745 if interested, or send email to LPWADE@GMAIL.COM.

P.S.  It's heavy, takes two to safely move the bench top.  I unscrewed the vise when I bought it to lighten the load for moving.
