Free but non-working Delta planer

This was owned by a carver who passed away.  I didn't know him but am helping his wife move things on.  I couldn't get this planer to work and I'm not sure it is worth the effort, but you might want to try.  My guess is it's best use is for learning how they work and taking it apart for fun.

On the surface it worked after I replaced the blade ($20), but it didn't cut correctly.  When I took it apart again, the new blade was chipped, not a good sign.  It looks to me like the steel retainer bar holding the blade in was bent a bit, indicating the machine might have been damaged somewhere in the past.

Carvers aren't hard on planers. When I asked the wife if she had any memories, she said it was primarily used to plane rough sawn cedar for a replacement fance.

The design looks classic and resembles planers today.  If this one worked, the main flaw I see is no dust collection.  There is a YT video showing how to adapt a Craftsman shroud to make dust collection work.

I'm not going to give it to Habitat or put it on Craigslist because I don't want to inflict naive users with the unknowns.
