Instructor: Vince Corbin

Prerequisites: The Student must have completed the Basic CNC Introduction class.

Each student needs to bring a laptop with VCarve (possibly a trial version) installed, and with a three button mouse with scroll wheel.

The Student should have some familiarity with Windows 10/11 computers and graphical user interfaces.

This CNC SIG will be a pilot class in the basic use of Vectric VCarve software for generating tool paths for use with the Guild shop CNC.

You will learn how a CNC machine is controlled and what it can and cannot do. You will also learn how to import, create, and modify very simple part designs in VCarve, how to select appropriate tooling, and how to generate various kinds of tool paths. You will learn a little about G-code and how to transfer the G-code tool path files to the Guild shop CNC. You will also learn how to import vector files and 3-D relief carving files into VCarve and how to successfully generate tool paths for them. You will end up with a G-code tool path file on a thumb drive. You can cut out the design on the Guild CNC during a future CNC Operations and Safety class or with a CNC Mentor. If time permits, the instructor may demonstrate CNC operation.

Review Shop Safety and Covid Information.

  • Have your COVID vaccination on file in the shop computer. If not, email it to carol.boyd@guildoforegonwoodworkers.org within 3 days of the class or your registration will be canceled.
  • You are in good health, not living with anyone who is ill, have not been exposed to anyone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days
  • You have a face covering without an exhaust valve. This must cover your nose, mouth, and chin and is to be worn at all times. The Guild does have some for sale at the shop but we recommend you bring your own.
