Build a Cutting Board
Instructor - Mike Chia
Assistant - Tom Nelson
Prerequisites: Intro to Guild Safety and Core Tool Certification
Join us to make a beautiful face-grain cutting board! This is a great first project-based class after Core Tool Certification to gain more experience in the shop. The project provides opportunities to learn about glue and clamps, review the jointer, planer and table saw, and gain more experience using the bandsaw to make curved cuts. We will also introduce the router table for performing edge profiles.
In this four-hour class, each student will
· select their materials and glue up a blank for their cutting board
· use the jointer and planer to clean up their blank
· cut and sand the shape of their cutting board
· round over the edges of their board
All materials will be provided. We will provide some templates and examples, but feel free to bring any additional layout tools you’d like to use to mark the shape of your cutting board.
