Suggestion - check with Doug Drake about scheduling some time in the Studio for the initial meeting:

    Just a couple of thoughts...

If this is primarily a hand-tool activity the first meeting and slide show could be held as part of a Hand Tool SIG monthly meeting or Hand Tool Mentoring session.  This might also get some more interest from other folks who might not use the forum.  And from there we could find out how to hold future sessions.

Hand Tool SIG meetings are the last Thursdays of the month at 6pm it looks like, and the Hand Tool Mentoring studio sessions look to be on first Sundays at 1pm.  If that works time-wise for people...

I'm also open to other ideas.  And if future sessions would require power tool use, we can ask around to see who's in charge of adding additional sessions to the Studio calendar.

    Great!  Thanks Kevin!

if we can get some classroom time for a first meeting we can kick this off with a basics slideshow to get everyone started on where to find materials and tools.

I’m a new member.  Any ideas? Let me know.

Thanks Mike.  Our first task would be to get some shop time for a first meet and a basic bow making slide presentation. Any ideas on making that happen, let me know.

    Hey all -

I’m new to the guild and I like making my own bows and arrows and I’d love to share that interest with anyone in the guild wanting to learn more.  Traditional archery is very addictive.

Any interest in forming a traditional bow-making SIE?  Please hit me up.

I could teach a basic class on PowerPoint of how to get started making your own bows and arrows:

    • Wood selection and stave harvesting/drying.
    • Basic bow designs and stave layout.
    • Laminated bows vs “self-bows”.
    • Hand tools and how they’re used in bowyering.
    • The Art of “tillering” your bow.
    • Finishing and shooting-in your bow.

Making fiberglass laminate bows is another topic we could address in another class/group

Let me know what you think
