I’m still unsure if we need to fab some more desks or hold off pending paperwork completion and additional demand?

Does anybody have any thoughts about using 1/4 inch ApplePly for the splines?

I have three frames ready for splines.

I’m out of walnut and I have some of the ApplePly.   It fits the slots I’m cutting on a router table with a 1/4 inch bit.

I’m going to dry fit a few and see what they look like.

    Nice innovation Mike.

I have been using a disk sander jig that takes advantage of the bolt hole in the legs to radius the top of the legs. It requires me to use a band saw or coping saw to rough in the radius. It gives me a nice radius but is a little more time consuming than your solution.

I assembled four apron/leg assemblies this afternoon.

At last Monday's team meeting Lee mentioned some jigs he had for radiusing sheet goods corners on a router table.   I bought some and they work great for that.

I doubt if I"m the first one to do this,  but I came up with a shop made jig that uses these fixtures to radius the end of the table legs.   Between the clamps and a strip of double sided tape it works pretty well.

The attached files say it all.

That one came through. It is a more elegant hardware for your neighbor's desk.

It looks like my snippet didn't post,  so I'm going to post the link here and try to attach a jpeg.

I'm going to make the kids across the street a lap desk using maple for the apron and legs and maple veneered Appleply for the top.   I wanted the hardware to look a little less industrial so I was thinking about something like the snippet below.

I'm wondering if anybody has used this type of hardware before?

The first batch of 14 student lap desks were delivered to the students yesterday. Good reviews so far from parents and students. 15 more in the pipeline for next week.

The pocket screws are great with one issue.   There’s a bit of a cleance probem with the pocket screw being proud from the apron.  The legs bind a little bit.  Nothing a little judicious sanding wont fix.  Probably operator error on my part.  I will gladly start gluing the tops only on my next batch.

We will discussing whether we even need screws at the design meeting tomorrow. We 51 square inches of glue surface connecting the apron to the tops. I would like to see some evidence of that being  the weakest point in the construction before we add any screws.  I would hate to see screws in the work surface of these desks.

Dennis will be back in the Guild shop on Wednesday afternoon doing some more milling. He had 15 set of parts milled up and in the annex on Friday afternoon. I am going to drop off come completed desks and  pick up some kits myself to start another round of desks on Wednesday.

Thanks for you feedback.   I didn't think about pocket screws.   I think I will glue and pocket screw the tops on.   I have one of the non Kreg jigs and it works great.

I too am finding it easier after I've built a couple.   How can I drop the three off that I will finish in a couple of days and pickup some more bundles to build up?
