    Hey Mike.

    Glad you are making progress.

The height was decided on by the design team working with some of the kids from the school they are being donated to. I was afraid they were going to be to short. Now that we will have 13 in use next week we may get some more feedback from end users.

The Linda from Neighborhood House was going to pick up the first batch of completed desks today and we should have another 15 ready for her next week.

We have been glueing the tops on the aprons we talked about going with pocket screws as well but decided there will be very little wood movement issues and the glue should do the job,

I am working on four desks this weekend and they get easier with each batch.

Thanks for helping with this project.

How are folks attaching the baltic birch top to the hardwood frame?

I’ve got one built up and the concensus in my household that the work surface is to high.  The neighbor boy is in middle school and he is going to see how it works for him.

I won't be able to make today's Zoom call.    I'm working on the bundles I picked up last week.   I've got some questions that perhaps the group can answer:

    1) Are the gaps between the legs when nested in the storage position symmetric?   On each side there's a top gap and a bottom gap.   Are they supposed to be the same? I'll try to take some pictures and post them later on today.

    2) I"m assuming that I should drill pilot holes for the wood screw locations?   Is this a good guess?

    3) I'm going to round all the edges but I'm wondering to what grit I should sand the item down to?   If they are going to paint these I don't think going past 150 makes any sense,  but I'm open for some guidance on this.

    Regards,

    Thanks Dennis.

This is a great project for the community. I look forward to having my apron/ leg assemblies completed this weekend.

A team from Project Build is making a few 100 lap desks for under-served students. This forum is for discussion of design, materials, and construction.
